Jesus - Outcast for Another's Sake (Part 2)

November 1, 2010 by Matt Morgan

This is the second part of a two part sermon that will cover Mark 2:1-3:6. As we move on into the second chapter of Mark's gospel we will begin to see a theme that Mark develops throughout his entire gospel account - the theme of Jesus being at odds with the religious leaders. And as I have examined the text is seems that one point Mark emphasizes is that Jesus chose to be an outcast in order to complete His Father's mission and to demonstrate His great love for us. In the second part I will be dealing with Mark 2:18-3:6 and will try to demonstrate that the second of the two reasons that Jesus was an outcast for His Father's sake and for ours is because He emphasized faith in Him rather than faith in the Law.

October 18, 2010 by Matt Morgan

The gospel of Jesus Christ isn't good news unless the readers have hope that this Savior is a compassionate Savior. In Mark 1:29-45 Mark details for his readers two specifications of Christ's Compassion: the scope of Jesus' compassion and the depth of Jesus' compassion. The accounts Mark uses to proclaim these truths are shocking accounts, but articulate well that Jesus' compassion extends to all humanity and that it does extraordinary things to show how deeply compassionate Jesus is for His people.

Readers of the gospel of Mark need to be rightly introduced to Jesus so that they will consider His life, teachings, and ministry and respond to those.
